Furosemide is a diuretic or water pill. The main purpose is to remove water from the human body which is one of the leading causes of edema. Furosemide can also help in the treatment of Hypertension(High Blood Pressure).

Furosemide works within the first hour of consumption and has lasting effects for six to eight hours. Since there is an increase in the amount and need to urinate while using this product, it is recommended that this medication be taken in the morning. If this medication needs to be taken twice a day try to take the second tablet in the early evening in order to avoid the need for night time bathroom use.

This product can cause the body to lose potassium. For this reason it is suggested that while on this prescriptive medicine either a vitamin supplement containing potassium be taken or foods rich in potassium like bananas or oranges be eaten. Salt intake should also be limited while taking Furosemide. A low sodium diet is advised.
