Captopril
Buy Captopril online
Captopril is an ACE-inhibitor, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, primarily used for the treatment of hypertension and some types of congestive heart failure. Captopril was the first ACE inhibitor developed and was considered a breakthrough both because of its novel mechanism of action and also because of the revolutionary development process.
Captopril's main uses are based on its vasodilation and inhibition of some renal function activities. These benefits are most clearly seen in the following conditions:
- Hypertension
- Cardiac conditions such as post myocardial infarction and congestive heart failure
- Preservation of kidney function in diabetic nephropathy
Additionally, it has shown mood-elevating properties in some patients. This is consistent with the observation that animal screening models indicate putative antidepressant activity for this compound, although there has been one negative study. Formal clinical trials in depressed patients have not been reported.

Captopril warnings
Do not use Captopril:
- If you are hypersensitive (allergic) to captopril, other ACE inhibitors or any of the other ingredients of Captopril
- If you have had angioedema (swelling of the legs, arms, face, mucous membranes, tongue) associated with treatment with ACE inhibitors
- Pregnant women should not use Captopril during the last 6 months of pregnancy. Even in early pregnancy, it is better to avoid Captopril, see Pregnancy information below.
Take special care with Captopril:
- Captopril can produce symptoms of excessively low blood pressure (dizziness, fainting), especially when administered with other antihypertensive medications. Always tell your doctor if such symptoms occur.
- Before surgery and anesthesia, your physician should be informed that you are taking Captopril, because blood pressure can be lowered considerably in narcosis.
- If severe hypersensitivity reactions with swelling of the tongue, throat and airways and breathing difficulties occur consult a doctor immediately.
- In patients receiving concomitant medications that impairs the body's immune system or who have serious connective tissue diseases, especially in combination with renal insufficiency, reduced resistance to infections occur. If sore throat or fever of unexplained cause occurs during the treatment should consult your doctor.
- If you have impaired kidney function may Captopril cause protein in urine. An estimation of urinary protein should be monitored regularly during treatment by using a test strip in the urine of the day.
- If you have diabetes, your blood sugar levels decrease and therefore should be carefully monitored during the first month of treatment.
- If you think you are pregnant or become pregnant during treatment, contact your doctor. Captopril are not recommended during pregnancy and should not be used during the last 6 months of pregnancy because they may cause serious harm, see Pregnancy and Lactation.
Pregnancy and lactation
If you think you are pregnant or become pregnant during treatment with Captopril, contact your doctor. Usually, you should stop taking Captopril before pregnancy or as soon as you know you are pregnant and instead be recommended another medication to use. Again, Captopril should not be used in early pregnancy and should not be used during the last 6 months of pregnancy because it may cause birth defects. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Breastfeeding of a newborn baby (first week after birth), especially of premature babies, is not recommended when using Captopril. If nursing an older baby, you should discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Captopril compared with other drugs.
Driving and using machines
Dizziness may occur at the beginning of Captopril treatment or when dosage changes and this may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. These effects depend on the individual's sensitivity and you are always responsible for not taking chances if your ability is impaired.
Captopril contain lactose. If you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
Captopril drug interactions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other prescription drug, OTC med, herbal product or any natural product since they may interfer with the effects of Captopril. Also note the following:
- Anything containing lithium should not be taken with Captopril without close supervision by your doctor.
- Captopril may reduce the excretion of potassium from the body. Mineral salt containing potassium should be used only after consultation with the doctor.
- Special precautions may be needed if you are taking potassium-sparing drugs, diuretics, medicines used to treat gout (containing allopurinol) and medications to control diabetes (pills or insulin).
- It is also important for your doctor to know if you take other medications to lower blood pressure, pain-relieving anti-inflammatory agents (eg, containing aspirin, ibuprofen, indomethacin and sulindac), medicines for the treatment of cancer, drugs for depression or psychosis.
- Severe allergic reactions can occur if Captopril used in the treatment of hypersensitivity to bee or wasp venom (desensitization).

Elderly patients and patients with kidney problems may be given a lower starting dose and for children, the usual starting dose is 0.3 mg / kg body weight (for premature newborns and 0.15 mg / kg).
