Do not take Cefuroxime:

• If you are hypersensitive (allergic) to cephalosporins or any of the other ingredients
• If you had an anaphylactic reaction (severe allergic reaction with general symptoms) when penicillin treatment

Possible Cefuroxime side effects

Like all medicines, Cefuroxime side effects may be experienced, although not everybody gets them.

Common (greater than 1 in 100 people affected): Headache, dizziness, elevated liver enzymes, effects on blood cells. Diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain. Fungal overgrowth which can cause a white coating on the tongue or itching in the genital area.

Uncommon Cefuroxime side effects (less than 1 in 100 people affected): Vomiting. Skin rash. Reduction of the blood cells (white or platelets).

Rarely experienced side effects (less than 1 in 1,000 patients affected): itching, hives. Severe diarrhea.

Very rare (less than 1 av10000 patients affected): hypersensitivity reactions such as allergic shock. You should contact a doctor immediately. Anemia, fever, jaundice.
Skin rash with blisters.

In rapidly developing rash, fever and / or facial swelling you should immediately contact your hospital or the treating physician and most likely have the Cefuroxime treatment discontinued.
